What is a Food Forest?
A food forest is when edible plants are organized to mimic the ecosystems and patterns in nature. At the FFAB, we highlight the relationships between humans, plants, animals, and the environment, and how we can all work together and thrive while providing an abundant harvest.
Benefits of a Food Forest
We are building the FFAB to provide benefits to all, including:
-Wildlife habitat
-Resilient biodiversity
-Abundance of food and medicinal yields
-Carbon sequestration
-Increased tree canopy
-Healthy and stable soils
-Runoff reduction and rainwater infiltration
-Local food security via "Open Harvest"
-Community gathering and all-ages education
Layers of a Food Forest
Forests are structured vertically in layers, defined by both height and sunlight exposure, but life extends in all directions - up, down, and out.
